“We are delighted to hear that Bristol Mayor, Marvin Rees, has confirmed that Jubilee Pool will re-open as soon as it’s safe to do so. Parkwood Leisure will continue to run the contract until March 2022. There are various options for the future after this time, but we now have a breathing space to ensure these are fully explored.
Should we be elected as Knowle’s councillors in the Local Elections this May, we will work hard to find a long-term community led solution. For now, we cannot wait to see Jubilee open and for residents to finally use the pool again.
Many people have participated to ensure that the arguments for keeping the pool open were heard, not least the Friends of Jubilee Pool. Along with us, many Labour members have made our voices heard. including Cllr Tim Rippington, (Brislington East), Cllr Jon Wellington (Windmill Hill) and our MP Karin Smyth.
Indeed, every supporter who rallied around the cause made a difference, whether signing and sharing the petition or handing out flyers and leaflets – Well done on your fantastic hard work over these last few months!
The cross-party group had a really positive impact and, in the end, persuaded the Council that there was another way to proceed. It was a difficult job but we’re glad that everyone regardless of political affiliation came to a sensible solution and got the result we needed.
This shows what can be achieved when we work together. We will continue our hard work on a long-term future for Jubilee pool!
