Helen Holland, Paul Goggin and Kerry Bailes
Candidates for Hartcliffe and Withywood Ward, May 2021
Kerry, a long-standing resident with a wide array of local knowledge is passionate about breaking down stereotypes, has led campaigns on housing & homelessness, education, and youth provision.
Paul has enjoyed his first term as your local councillor and is currently a trustee of local service and charity Hawkspring, has campaigned on a variety of issues through community organisation Acorn and chairs the Audit committee on the Avon Fire Authority.
Helen has represented the area for nearly 30 years and takes great pride in helping people with local issues. She is a Governor of Hartcliffe Nursery and Children’s Centre, and Director of HWV at the Gatehouse Centre.
We have seen, and been part of, the response from local voluntary organisations and individuals during the pandemic, and want to thank everyone who has given their time to support the community in all sorts of ways including delivering food, medicines and making calls to isolated residents.
We are so grateful for your work which has helped at least 350 people in the community.
We are delighted to see the new – much-needed – housing going up on the former Hartcliffe Campus site, now called Jessop Park, and are pleased that approximately a third of the 350 new homes will be available for social rent or shared ownership.
We are also excited about the plans to relocate St Bernadette’s Rugby Club coming to Hartcliffe and will be working with the club to ensure facilities for young people and the wider community are included in their plans.
We know that transport and bus services in the area are a big issue, and with car ownership lower than other parts of the city, understand that regular and reliable buses are necessary for people to get to work and college, so we support our MP Karin Smyth’s call for the promised Metrobus service on the South Bristol Link Road to be introduced as soon as possible.
