Chris Jackson and Zoe Goodman
Candidates for Knowle West (Filwood) Ward May 2021
Chris has been a local councillor for Knowle West (Filwood) since 2006 and is very well known in the area. During Covid lockdown, he helped distribute food parcels and pick up medicines for local residents. Zoe lives in Lower Knowle, where she raised her son as a single parent. She is an active campaigner, particularly on housing issues, and is part of the Knowle West Future group.
Covid – Local residents have showed their community spirit by stepping up to help neighbours during the Covid lockdowns, delivering food parcels, meals and medicines. Knowle West Alliance helped coordinate this effort to ensure that nobody was missed out, with information leaflets delivered twice to all households.
Housing and planning – Chris and Zoe are keen to ensure that all new housing developments provide a variety of house sizes and council and housing association tenancies. Chris has been working to ensure that a large proportion of these houses go to local people on the council waiting list.
Schools – The new secondary school on Daventry Road now has outline planning permission and should be available for local school students within the next couple of years.
Transport – The new cycle path along Airport Road adds to the existing paths along Hartcliffe Way and Filwood Greenway.
Parks, greenspaces and community centres – Over £130,000 from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Section 106 funds has been used to improve the greenspaces at Novers Hill, Inns Court and Filwood Broadway, plus the Walk of Fame and crazy golf in Filwood Community Centre. Wildflowers have been planted in all our parks and green spaces and £40,000 has been provided for planting trees.
Jobs – If the We Can Make housing project gets the go-ahead, this will provide local jobs and training.
