Bristol City Mayor Marvin Rees has confirmed that Bristol’s true history will be researched by a new commission of historians and city placemakers. The commission will research Bristol’s rich and varied areas and stories to give us a wider understanding of how we can build a fairer and more inclusive city.
The statue of Edward Colston will be retrieved from the harbour and exhibited, alongside #BlackLivesMatter placards from the recent protest, in one of Bristol’s museums. There are many ideas being put forward for what should go on the remaining plinth. Any decision on how the plinth should be used will be decided democratically through consultation.
